Week 6 # 15
I read the article To more powerful ways to cooperate, and I really like the idea of being able to direct our patrons to the worldcat online, just another database that they can explore. As far as the "collective intelligence" goes, people in general know what they are looking for, and are only to willing to search for that information before they have to come into the library, the more then can do online the easier it is for them. Most of our users are more than happy to give an opinion or take a survey if they can do it from the comfort of thier own homes. I also read the article Away from the “icebergs”, I think that the "just in case" collection is a great idea, however, not all the smaller libraries can afford materials on a mabey one day situation. I think the training our patrons is a wonderful idea, once you can help a patron find something on thier own, the next time they are more apt to try the next time on thier own or mabey even showing a friend what they have learned. I also think that libraries need to keep up with all the new technology and research databases just to be informed and be able to futher help our patrons find the material they are looking for.
Week 6 # 14
I like the tagging because it can combine a lot of information with a few key words. The Technorati takes a little bit more time to read and try to understand everything that's scrolling on the page.
Week 6 # 13
The del.icio.us site is more for people that know exactly what they are looking for, or for the ones that have a lot of time to browse.
Week 5 # 11
I like the library thing, but I have to add more titles later. This one was fun and interesting and can be a great tool for the avid reader, it's a way to keep track of all the books you are reading.
